RECEIVING THE LIGHT, SHARING THE LIGHT, BEING THE LIGHT

LIGHTHOUSE IN MISSION

The people of Lighthouse UMC are active supporters of a wide array of mission activities: The Florida United Methodist Children's Home, The Harry Chapin Food Bank, The United Methodist Cuba/Florida Covenant, La Vega School in the Dominican Republic, United Methodist Volunteers in Mission, Caring Partners, The Charlotte Homeless Coalition, Jim Russo Prison Ministries, and ECHO are just some of them.  See the related links to the right for more information.

Lighthouse United Methodist Churce raises significant revenue for the support of Missions  each spring year two major events, The Strawberry Festival and The Community Pancake Breakfasts.

The Festival made its debut in 1992 and the 2011 event will take place  on March 5th 2011 at the Louise Crowninshield  Community House. adjacent to the Community Center. Hundreds of bargain seekers and strawberry shortcake lovers will gather for the event, consuming Brats and Franks prepared by the Grilling for God chefs, shopping for great bargains, cool crafts, and delicious baked goods, and taking part in the silent  auctions.

From a small beginning in 1984, the Pancake Breakfast has gained in popularity, with nearly 3,000 breakfasts served during the eight week "pancake season."  Each week the  "crew" will scramble approximately 50 dozen eggs, serve up 6 gallons of grits, pour 10 gallons of orange juice and over 400 cups of coffee, and cook God only knows how many pancakes.  And it's all done by eager volunteers who covet their assignments and ask only for a "hug" in return!!
